AUTISM RESEARCH TASK GROUP (ARTG)

ARTG Overview

BACKGROUND

In accordance with the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act of 1995 (NTTAA), North Caldwell NJ Mayor Mel Levine has approved the formation of the Autism Research Task Group (ARTG) in order to review the 3 Voices of Safety International (VOSI) autism research reports and associated standards.

In addition the vaccination schedules from 1990 through 2005 will be provided in order that ARTG members can determine whether there is any correlation between the dramatic increase of Autism Syndrome Disorders (ASD) and the dramatic increase in the rate of vaccinations.

Current emphasis by those who believe that vaccines are the major cause of ASD is based on the mercury content of the vaccine preservative Thimerosal.

VOSI research, based on the opinion of parents of children with autism, shows that they believe the relative contribution of mercury, genetics and the triple vaccines (DPT & MMR), are 18%, 20% and 62% respectively.

Based on this survey, mercury is just the tip of the problem and the triple vaccinations appear to be the major cause. The total includes the sum of the 18% mercury and 62% triple vaccines that equals 80% total vaccinations which agrees with Dr. Rimland's 80% of parents who stood up when asked "How many of you believe vaccinations caused your child's autism?" during the 2004 DAN Conference.

A recent German study confirms VOSI V50.2 - "Standard for Eliminating Mercury (Thimerosal) in Vaccines, Ban the Triple Vaccines, DPT & MMR, and Permit Freedom of Choice", wherein the first question asked of the parents, "Is your child normal?" indicated that the percent of normal children, based on the use of vaccines, were "None" 98%, "Some" 88% "All" 78% (See table 4.).

The German study confirms that children that are not vaccinated are healthier than those that are vaccinated. In addition to the studies that support that vaccinations appear to be the major cause of the autism epidemic, we will present references from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Institute of Medicine (IOM), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

CONCLUSION

A review of both sides of the issue were given to all ARTG members to allow them to reach their individual conclusions.

All ARTG members were asked to complete the review of the ARTG articles, after which the  results were compiled and summarized by the VOSI ARTG coordinator, Steve Trushell. All Task Group Members approved the 3 VOSI Research Reports and their correlation with the 2004 Defeat Autism Now (DAN) Conference. The final ballots and conclusions can be found here.

This will be presented to the North Caldwell Mayor and Council with the following proposed "Autism Awareness Proclamation":

WHEREAS, the National Technology & Advancement Act of 1995 (NTTAA) requires every level of government to review and utilize applicable private sector standards, and

WHEREAS, Voices of Safety International (VOSI) is a private sector standards writing organization recognized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and

WHEREAS the Mayor of North Caldwell has assigned a liaison person to the ARTG to review the VOSI autism standards and research reports and

WHEREAS as the Nine ARTG committee members have unanimously agreed that the citizens of North Caldwell should be made aware of the VOSI research reports and standards, and

WHEREAS, The VOSI website contains both research reports and standards on the probable causes and prevention of the worldwide autism epidemic at www.voicesofsafety.com (see Public Health)

NOW, THEREFORE, I Mel Levine, Mayor of the Borough of North Caldwell urge all employees and residents be made aware of and review and utilize the applicable VOSI autism research reports and standards in order to become better educated on the probable causes and prevention of autism spectrum disorders.
